Hauser & Wirth and Moretti Fine Art at Frieze Masters 2017
For the second time, Laplace participated at London’s Frieze Masters curating the booth for Hauser & Wirth and Moretti Fine Art collaboration in a shared presentation.
While synthesizing artworks with its surrounding space and creating a harmonious environment that encourages contemplation, our main inspirations came from the Parisian homes of Yves Saint Laurent and Jacques Doucet, a manifestation of exquisite decor and fine art. Invoking the visual language and ambience of a private home and collection, our goal was to provide an elegant environment encouraging the synergy of periods and medium as well as a heightened engagement with the works.
Hauser & Wirth’s selection represents significant innovations in modern art, with noteworthy examples from Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, Viennese Actionism and Gutai, among other important movements, including works by Louise Bourgeois, Alexander Calder, Fausto Melotti, Francis Picabia, Franz West. This complements Moretti Fine Art’s presentation of religious icons and classical sculpture. By positioning twentieth-century masterworks in dialogue with art spanning antiquity to modernity, unexpected relationships and new interpretations are generated, revealing the essence of the creative act across centuries.
